~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Teen Beet! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"The Weekly Beet is simply exciting! Never before has Alternative Medicine been researched and presented in such an 'upbeet' way."
- Dr. Andrew Weil, MD
This week, The Weekly Beet reports on the teenage crisis that is spreading as we speak. Mary Kent & Elisa go role model in an effort to set a healthy example for teens around the world!
From increasing levels of obesity and drug abuse, it seems that every aspect of a teenager's health is at risk! With celebrity 'role models' getting paid to model highs and tacky tabloids getting paid to cover their lows, today's teens are bearing the brunt of such scandal! Ever heard the phrase 'monkey see monkey do'? It is a known fact that adolescents are easily swayed in mimicking bad behavior, are more prone to experimentation, and are less concerned of the destructive consequences of their unhealthy choices. These qualities make teens the #1 target amongst the corporations' manipulative, marketing scam in promoting their unhealthy products. Junk food, cigarette, and alcohol companies are just a few benefiting from such lack of awareness amongst teens. It seems as if a force outside parental guidance has taken control of our children's choices!
From Tony the Tiger to Ronald McDonald and Joe Camel, children and teens have long been the target of unhealthy role models, driven by companies with unhealthy intentions. Here are some statistics that prove the success of deviant role model marketing aimed at teens:
- More than 5 million children living today will die prematurely because of a decision to smoke cigarettes.
- Each year, American students spend $5.5 billion on alcohol, more than they spend on soft drinks, tea, milk, juice, coffee or books combined. (National Household Survey on Drug Abuse)
- 52% of children ages 5-17 have a TV in their bedroom. (BJK&E Media report, The New York Times)
- One-third of U.S. children and teens, about 25 million kids, are either overweight or on the verge of becoming so - the highest number ever recorded.
- In the UK, 2 out of 100 secondary school girls suffer from anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa or binge eating disorder.
