This week, The Weekly Beet reports straight from the vineyards of Italy. Mary Kent picks grapes, revealing the powerful secrets of Vinotherapie.
Is it possible that the fruit of the gods has the power to perform miracles on the skin? Research says yes! It has scientifically been proven that antioxidants called polyphenols in grapes and its seeds are more powerful than vitamin E in fighting the aging process of the skin. In Italy, France, and even the US, wine therapy, called Vinothrapie by the spa owner of Caudalie, is becoming the latest anti-aging trend guaranteed to reverse skin damage, to combat cellulite, and to even help with weight loss. In Vinotherapie, all parts of the grape (mainly taken from the red grape) including the pips, the seed, the skin, and even some of the juice are used to create oils, creams, masks, exfoliating and rejuvenating baths. Imagine the intense pleasure of sitting in a bath filled with your favorite vintage. Well, now you can!
It is thanks to the genius of Mathilde Cathiard-Thomas, daughter of the wine-maker of Chateau Smith-Haut-Lafitte, that Vinothrapie was born. She was determined to find a use for the grape stems, seeds, and other by-products that were normally thrown out during the wine making process. With the help of pharmacologist, Dr. Joseph Vercauteron, the two discovered that the grape seed contains one of nature's most potent antioxidants. This discovery opened the door to an entirely new approach in skincare and even in health. The use of grapes to reverse the aging process in skincare was a first! With a patent on the stabilization of grape-seed polyphenols, Matilde set out to develop the first line of grape based products called Caudalie and in 1999 opened the first Vinothrapie spa, Les Sources de Caudalie.
Here are the reasons why we believe in the veritas of Vinothrapie:
- Fights free radical damage from the sun, pollution, and smoking which causes a rapid increase in aging of the skin.
- Diminishes redness of the skin and restores its natural glow.
- Reverses the aging process.
- Fights cellulite.
- Aids in weight loss.
- Stimulates cellular renewal.
- Protects elastin and collagen of the skin.
We tried the unique wine facial at the Casanova Spa at the Hotel Cipriani, which uses the active ingredients of the Casanova Salso wine produced by the Hotel. Simply unBEETable! Click here to view more spas using Vinotherapie.
It's time to apply an '86 vintage to your skin! Don't miss a Beet. Stay tuned for next week.
Love,
Mary Kent
